SKN Clinic is home to Vancouver’s micro skin needling experts. SKN was one of the first clinics in Canada and perhaps the first in Vancouver to introduce this incredible skin rejuvenation technique over 7 years ago, using the traditional dermal roller system. In 2013 we upgraded to the Dermapen Micro-Needling System, offering even better results. It was a natural fit for SKN Holistic Rejuvenation Clinic since it utilized no chemicals purely just our natural wound healing. In 2018 we made the choice to upgrade the Eclipse Micro-Needling Pen due to its high quality mechanics, and most importantly its superior treatment results.
Micro needling is a very safe and effective alternative to injectables and invasive lasers. The results are long term and the recovery time is minimal. This cost effective, non-invasive, non-injectable skin rejuvenation treatment targets a diverse range of skin concerns. The Eclipse micro needling device that uses microscopic needles between 0.25mm and 2mm.
Micro Needling is derived from ancient acupuncture and mesotherapy. During the treatment, the pen is gently glided over the skin while tiny punctures are created within the epidermis and dermis that encourage the skin’s own natural healing response, leading to the production of collagen and elastin.
FINE LINES AND WRINKLES (Crows feet / forehead lines / lip lines)
As we age, the natural production of collagen and elastin diminishes, which leads to wrinkles and sagging skin. Wrinkling in the skin is also caused by habitual facial expressions, aging, sun damage, smoking, poor hydration, and various other factors. Micro needling promotes a process of new skin growth through the science of Collagen Induction Therapy. The most effective way to stimulate or “Induce” new skin safely and effectively is by micro needling.
ACNE SCARS and SURGICAL SCARS
Micro needling can improve the appearance of atrophic acne scars and surgical scars. The micro needles work to naturally stimulate new collagen production in the area of the scar. An added bonus is that you are not only decreasing the appearance of scars, but are addressing and delaying the signs of aging simultaneously. The physical nature of skin needling breaks up fibrous and uneven scar tissue and stimulates the growth of new tissue which results in a smoother and more even skin surface. Also, there is the added benefit of new capillary growth which improves the blood supply to the area, providing a healthy foundation for the new skin.
The downside of ablative, sub-ablative, and non-ablative treatments (such as Fraxel and CO2 lasers) is that these treatments use extreme heat which can evaporate and damage the fibroblast cells leading to a thinner epidermis. Micro needling, on the other hand, actually improves the health of the skin since the treatment is stimulating natural collagen growth factors and the epidermal growth factor which helps slow down thinning of the skin.
Micro-needling treatments not only target specific imperfections but also provide an overall rejuvenation of the skin. The needling process improves micro-circulation in conjunction with collagen and elastin formation beneath the skin to thicken the dermis, reducing wrinkles. You will notice improved skin texture, more even skin tone and an overall brightness to your skin. Undergoing a series of Micro-needling treatments will not only provide visible results to the entire appearance of your skin, but it will slow down the signs of ageing.
MINIMIZE PORE SIZE
Micro-needling treatments will result in a more refined appearance of the pores. There are two main culprits that contribute to the appearance of enlarged pores. The first culprit is congested skin. When your pores are congested this will increase their appearance. Secondly, pores will appear larger as our skin begins to age and the elasticity of our skin decreases. The Micro-Needling treatments stimulate collagen and elastin which results in firming of the skin thereby reducing the appearance of large pores.
Some of the benefits of Micro-Needling include:
- Stimulates the production of collagen, tightening the skin
- Reduces the appearance of crows feet and lip lines
- Reduces the appearance of forehead lines and frown lines
- Assists in the absorption of cosmetic products
- Reduces the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage
- Reduces the appearance of acne scars and chicken pock scars
- Reduces the appearance of enlarged pores
- Helps with rosacea by strengthening the skin
Frequently Asked Questions
+ Is there downtime after a Micro-Needling treatment?
Your skin will be pink similar to a sunburn and feel warm. Depending on the depth of treatment performed this redness can go away that evening or last a couple days. Most often your skin will feel dry for a few days post treatment. You are provided with a healing oil to aid your skin during this time. When having treatment for acne scarring there can be mild to moderate peeling post treatment.
+ Can I apply makeup the next day?
Yes you can apply makeup the following day. We recommend using a mineral based makeup or Oxygenetix.
+ How frequently can I have a Micro-Needling treatment?
The treatments are performed at 4-6 week intervals.
+ How many treatments will I need to see results?
The number of sessions varies from person to person depending on your skin needs and goals. The average number of sessions for anti-aging treatments is 3-6 in a year. The average number of sessions for acne scarring is 6.
+ How quickly are results visible?
Visible results are generally seen 6-8 weeks following the treatment and improve further over time. A course of Micro-Needling sessions is recommended to achieve optimum results; however skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment.
+ Is the treatment uncomfortable? Do I need to apply numbing cream?
The treatment is described as mildly to moderately uncomfortable by our clients. 90% of clients do not need a numbing agent. If you are very sensitive we recommend applying a numbing agent 30 minutes prior to your session. You can purchase the Zensai numbing tube for $69+ tax or a single use pod for $10 from us. We do not apply the numbing agent at SKN.

+ Where is the CTGF Human Growth Factor Sourced?
HydraFacial MD Connective Tissue Growth Factors Treatment (CTGF), uses stem cells collected from baby foreskin donated in routine circumcisions. The human growth factors and protein are the most concentrated levels in the industry, boosting the skin's metabolism to trigger the skin's mechanism for renewal. Here's how the cells are harvested, according to Gail Naughton Ph.D, leading research scientist in the field of growth factors and developer of this new protocol:
"The surgical discards from routine circumcisions are taken under sterile conditions and then treated with medical grade enzymes that leave the living cells. The newborn fibroblast cells are then grown in tissue culture in order to create hundreds of vials of cells that are stored in liquid nitrogen. These cells are tested for all known pathogens and viruses. One foreskin can support active manufacturing of growth factors for over a decade."
"The young healthy cells grow quickly and produce large amounts of growth factors and naturally secreted antioxidants that are important to skin health and rejuvenation. The cells are always from the same anatomical location and gender, which help to support a very reproducible product. The materials manufactured by the cells basically can deliver your skin all of the growth factors that your skin had when you were a baby."
Your skin is going to accept growth factors from skin more readily from plants or other sources.
+ What is the difference between the CTGF Human Growth Factor and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy) ?
CTGF is a human based growth factor derived from baby foreskin (this is collected in the hospitals in a very sterile method). It is a concentrated solution that was first used on burn victims, and those healing from diabetic ulcers in hospitals to regenerate healthy skin. It promotes skin healing and regeneration and speeds up results and healing time of micro-needling.
PRP also known as Platelet Rich Plasma therapy involves the drawing of blood. Blood is primarily made up of a substance called plasma along with platelets. Platelets contain hundreds of growth factors that are very important for healing and regeneration and are very well utilized by the skin because they are coming from your own blood and body. CTGF is one of the many growth factors contained in PRP. Some of the other growth factors are working more specifically on collagen synthesis, and increasing circulation to the skin. Ie. transforming growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factor, epidermal growth factor, keratinocytes growth factor.
The Eclipse PRP System (the one we use) allows us to simply remove red cells, white cells and platelet poor plasma (PPP) without removing a high percentage of platelets making it superior to other PRP systems.

"My technician made me feel very comfortable with my first service of microneedling. I was bit nervous initially but she helped put my nerves at ease and did a fantastic job! It was actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'm really looking forward to seeing results from these treatments!"
"I have always had the most AMAZING experience at SKN. I was recommended to go to SKN by a friend and have since referred many people to them.
I have a facial scar that Amanda treated with acupuncture and Dermapen, the results have been excellent. I've also had a medi-facial with Melissa, also an excellent result. I am intending to go back for hair removal with BBL, which comes highly recommended."
